Year-Round and Summer Naturalist Programming

We will offer weekend naturalist events at state parks, Scout camps,  and wildlife refuges throughout the school year so you can hone your naturalist skills and re-unite with your new friends from our week of training.  Join us for week-long summer nature-themed expeditions.  You will also be able to suggest programs in your area.  After everyone enjoys your Rodney Nature-Themed weekend, you will want to lead more programming for your unit.  Feel free to repeat the programs described below with your Scout troop or Venturing crew!

Earn the Broad Creek Hiker Award

Broad Creek Scout Reservation, in Harford County Maryland, has miles of trails to be hiked to earn the patch.  The award can be completed over a few day trips or on a long weekend.  A trail guide booklet is available at the camp trading post.

Get in the mud, catch crabs, see some egrets during a Fall or Spring weekend at Fox Island on the Cheseapeake Bay

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation offers incredible naturalist-led weekends on a remote island in the middle of the Bay. Reduced rates are offered to youth groups.  We will plan a weekend soon.  View this video to get an idea what takes place after you get off the ferry boat.

Canoe in the Adirondack lake region in upstate New York

Marty, seen in the canoe as a passenger with binoculars in the photo to the right, will lead a nature-themed canoe trip next summer.  For a description of what the experience will be like, click the button below to go to the information.

Attend Philmont's Environmental and Conservation oriented Adventure Programs.

Graduates of our program will be ideal candidates of programs offered in New Mexico at Philmont Scout Ranch.  Watch the videos to learn more.
